Seasons of the River
March, April, and Early May
Can you say nymphs and dry flies? As the water temperatures rise above 45 degrees, the caddis and stonefly nymphs really begin to move. By mid-March mayflies can be thick and the fishing is better than great.
Mid-May and June
Typically begins run-off on our rivers, however, we have private ponds full of big feisty rainbows within a short drive from Red Lodge.
July and August
Fishing can be hotter than the weather. Giant golden stones and hoppers fill the menu. Both can produce some really monster trout.
September and November
Autumn is the time of reflection, outstanding colors, and big browns chasing big streamers. Memories lie around each bend of the river.
December, January, and February
On winter days that exceed 40 degrees, the fishing can be surprisingly productive. A day on our local rivers can serve as a great diversion from hitting the slopes.
