Historical Tours and Special Music Presentations

WHERE: Carbon County Historical Society and Museum - 224 N Broadway

WHEN: Saturday, June 8th - Beginning at 10:30 am

COST: Free


Admission free on Friday, June 7th as well as Saturday, June 8th. On Saturday one hour historical walking tour of downtown Red Lodge will begin at 10:30 am; Music will be enjoyed in the Museum by Music Festival faculty at 1- 1:30 pm; A roundtable discussion will be held featuring Bob Moran, local music festival historian on the history of the Red Lodge Music Festival at 1:45 pm; Buses of Yellowstone Preservation Trust will offer a historic driving tour in an original Yellowstone Bus for a minimal fee, of the Hi-Bug District and other historical locations with very limited seating. Ages 16+ only please. Please call in advance to reserve your seat.

Mason's Mountain Run

10K Trail run & 2 Mile trail run/walk at 10:30 & 10:45 am, respectively. The event is located 9.5 miles south of Red Lodge on Highway 212 in the Custer National Forest. Rock Creek Slalom Kayak Race

WHERE: Rock Creek - Starts at the Red Box Car Restaurant

WHEN: Saturday June 8th - Registration 9:00 Race 11:00

COST: $20-$25


Event will be held on Rock Creek from Hwy Bridge to 19th street/Entry fee is $25 for Non BPS members $20 for BPS members-tentative, check for updates. This upcoming kayak race will start at the Red Box Car Restaurant and finish at the south end of Rotary Park at Rock Creek in downtown Red Lodge. Racers will have to pass through a series of slalom gates hanging above Rock Creek in a timed event. Whether you challenge the water, volunteer your time and energy, or just enjoy the event as a spectator, this is sure to be fun. This event is sponsored by the Beartooth Paddlers Society.

Red Lodge Music Festival

The festival is celebrating its 50th Birthday this year! The oldest and most successful music festival in Montana attracts over 200 students annually from Montana and other states, with talented faculty from across the nation. What began in 1964 as a week-long camp has expanded to a full-blown, nine-day music festival. All concerts are held at the Red Lodge Civic Center. Student evening recitals are on June 6th and 7th at 7 p.m.; with another student recital on Friday at 11 a.m. Faculty concerts are on June 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th and the 8th at 7:30 p.m. The 50th Happy Birthday concert, on Saturday, June 8th, will feature the entire RLMF faculty performing the composition Art and Innocence: A Journey of 50 Years, written by the RLMF composer in residence, John Harmon. The Gala student concert, at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 9th completes a worthwhile and memorable Music Camp.

This is a FREE EVENT! Recycle your E-Waste or electronic waste which is anything that plugs in that is no longer used such as old televisions, computers, monitors, telephones, radios, cell phones, iPods, printers, etc. Some of these devices contain some pretty nasty materials like mercury, lead, cadmium and PCBs that can pollute water and air resources without proper disposal or recycling. Electronics also contain valuable metals and components that can be used again in another manufacturing process.

Red Lodge Fire and Rescue Open House

As we move into another wildfire season in Carbon County, it is important that we do so together. The fire prediction scientists are warning of above normal fire activity in our region this season. As the local fire departments prepare, so should homeowners and landowners. Join us at our Open House to learn about what you can do as homeowners in case of fire, learn about the “Ready, Set, Go” program and get to know your volunteer / paid firefighters. Free Burger lunch will be served and families with all age children are welcome.
