2016 marks the 50th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act, the most visionary action in our nation’s history to protect our irreplaceable heritage. In honor of this milestone, MPA is planning a Preservation Road Show that will outshine them all. So, grab your walking shoes, hop on the tour bus, and join us June 1-4 in Red Lodge, Montana! Ride along with historians, authors, preservationists, archaeologists and tribal experts as we visit ancient rock art sites, historic trails, barns, churches, ranger stations, school houses, downtown storefronts, and more.

Tour Highlights:

Full-day and half-day tours exploring homesteading and ethnic heritage, Bearcreek and Smith Mine history, Custer National Forest history, prehistoric rock art and Native American history of the Pryor Mountains and the Second Crow Agency. Beartooth Highway excursion on antique Yellowstone Buses Horse-drawn wagon and walking tours in Red Lodge Conference sessions on downtown revitalization, heritage tourism, cultural landscapes, National Register nominations, and preservation funding Schoolhouse Preservation Workshop

The festival is celebrating its 53rd Anniversary this year! The oldest and most successful music festival in Montana attracts over 200 students annually from Montana and other states, with talented faculty from universities, colleges, and symphony orchestras from across the nation. What began in 1964 as a week-long camp has expanded to a full-blown, nine-day music festival. Five evening faculty concerts, two evening student recitals, and afternoon band and orchestra performances complete a worthwhile and memorable Festival experience for student, faculty and audience.

All concerts are held at the Red Lodge Civic Center. .
