We here at A Very Unique Log Home are proud of our work and want to insure that the your home is finished as it was envisioned. We are always available at all stages of the construction for advice and assistance. Log construction presents many challenges to new builders and buyers, and we want to make the building process as easy, efficient, and cost-effective as possible. We welcome receiving rough sketches, floor plans and/or full blueprints to submit a price quote to your for the log shell portion of the building.
Chinked Style Construction It takes years of training to be able to handcraft a chinked style log home. The expertise comes in the fitting of floor systems, roof systems, and log trusses. These are all natural features of a chinked style log home. Our typical corner is a saddle notch shrink-to-fit. We use flexible latex chinking with foram backer rod, which fits snugly into the chink (space between each log), to insure no air leaks . This type of chinking stays flexible for years. Many people ask about Scandinavian Scribe style. We prefer the versatility, lower cost, and less settling of the logs associated with tight chinked style. A Very Unique log home does not recommend that our standard log gable and purlin system be used with Scandinavian Scribe style, but that the gable ends be constructed with standard frame construction, and finished with a siding.
Pricing
A Very Unique Log home builds each project according to the requests of the owner. Each home is custom and therefore it is not possible to offer a price list. However, we have found that most projects can be estimated on a per square foot basis while considering design complexity factors. Please use the following a price guideline for your custom home. We will give a confirmed bid after discussion of the exact requirements and options you specify on your home.

Our standard bid is arranged in the following manner:
The Logwork Shell including:
• The perimeter log walls and some interior log partitions.
• Flattened log purlin roof framing system designed to support the ceiling and roof finishing package
• All tie logs and vertical posts
• Porch roof framing systems in full log
• Log dormers
• Log trusswork and customized log framing system
• Supervised logwork reconstruction.

In 11-14 inch diameter logs: $25-$50 per square foot (simple roofline home with minimal corners will be on the lower end of the range. Homes with more corners, rooflines, formers, or other options will be in the middle to higher part of this range). Larger log size: 15-17 inch diameter logs are available at an increased cost. Because of the scarcity of logs in this size range and larger, it may be necessary to reserve logs in advance.

Unique log stairways and railings can be created for most projects. The stairways are typically an open-tread style.

Delivery Trucking of the logs to the final building site is accomplished by a licensed hauler whose bid is based on the project location. Cost estimates are available to your area upon request. A supervisor from A Very Unique Log Home will be on site to coordinate the arrival of the trucks and to re-erect the logwork shell (this is included in the logwork shell bid). The contractor or owner typically provides a crew of 3-4 to assist in this process. A local crane will also be required, and is in addition to the log shell bid. Travel expenses for a supervisor is also an additional cost.
